Mike, even though my name shows to be a Democrat affiliation, I am an independent though I vote Republican nearly 100% of the time. I am EXTREMELY FURIOUS after seeing the 10% plus increase in our home and property assessments for 2009 from 2008 – with NO home or property improvements of any kind. I was told by the State Tax Comm. that YOU and YOUR fellow state Reps. /Sen. got together and passed the current property assessments - 19% of what our house is considered to be worth. We were expecting that our property taxes would be at least 15% LOWER due to the state of the economy and the steep dive in home prices. Well, surprise, surprise, you and your political friends decided that you just had to have more of our HARD EARNED MONEY so you can expand more government programs and continue our slide into a Socialist State!!!! I wish that you and ALL of the "elected" and "appointed bureaucrats” were thrown out of office and some HONEST people, that care for their fellow man, would be sworn in to be on the "PEOPLE'S side for once! I know that you won't dare to allow this to be approved and shown on your web site, or have an HONEST discussion of fairness for taxing the people of Missouri. I LOVE Mo, and plan to retire back to my home town of Doniphan, but with elected officials like you and all over the UNITED STATES of AMERICA, I'm beginning - like a LOT of people, to wonder if MO. and the USA is really the place that I want to call home. I served my country in the USAF many years ago and it just isn't the same country that I care deeply for!!! Why don't you talk with Jan Spencer (Ripley County Assessor – 573-996-7112) and get her opinion on this recent MANDATED TAX increase - I have! I would appreciate an HONEST response as to what is happening here and if you and your fellow legislators have a clue as to what you are doing to the people of our state / country. I do not want to hear the standard political line that this is just what we had to do… The continued spending increases are a disgrace to us all and I'm truly afraid that it is going to lead to the downfall of us ALL!!!
