I spoke with Senator Kessler yesterday afternoon about bill 456. I was given his and two other senator's phone numbers because I am concerned about the fire hazards of the bands that are being put on cigarettes. He was rude and abrupt with me. I know several people that have the same concerns that I have. I am trying to gather as much information about the bill as I can. Senator Kessler was one of the three that was pushing the bill, so I thought he could give me the information that I was looking for. He was not helpful at all and made me feel as though all I was doing was bothering him. I thought that the elected officials was there to listen to the people that elected them...by Senator Kesslers view, we are just a nuisance to him and our opinions or concerns don't matter.

Senator Kessler does not want to hear what the people have to say. When I contacted him at his office, I was suprised that he came straight to the phone. When I was telling him about my concerns on bill 456 that goes into effect January 1, 2010, he to informed me that he did not have time for my 'nonsense.' For a fact he said, "go to Ohio and buy your cigaretttes." Also, when I asked him if there was any research done to see if the papers were considered safe, he replied that they took the word of the tobacco companies. The bottum line is the papers are hazardous. They have caused many burns to my hands because the paper bands are so thick they do not burn evenly and fall off.
