PLEASE SUPPORT BILL 2821 and amend it again to change a felony to a FIRST TIME CONVICTION. As both a farming family and animal rescuer, I can understand the need for farm families to be able to protect their livestock. However, as an animal rescuer in the State of Mississippi, I can tell you that animal cruelty, including dog fighting, IS a problem here. Dogs tethered to trees in 98 deg. with 100% humidity and no water or food or shelter. Dogs bred just for puppies for animal fighting. It happens here. There is no real incentive to stop it. PLEASE -- I'M BEGGING YOU -- step up to the plate and protect these harmless, helpless victims. Put some real "bite" into the laws that will protect these animals who have come to depend upon the very people who torture and kill them. We need legislation that CAN be enforced so that local police departments WILL make enforcement a priority (that, too, has been a problem, in my opinion). PLEASE. Make it a felony THE FIRST TIME, and pass the bill. PLEASE. Carol B Brandon, MS

Please support Bill #S2127. I have learned that you can tell a lot about the character of a person or group of people by how they treat those who ...are helpless - this includes animals. Mississippi deserves a reputation to be proud of - let's show the rest of the country our character by sending the strong message that we refuse to tolerate cruelty to any of God's creatures. Please step up to the plate and represent the State of Mississippi and not just your personal interest.

onSavage: stinking filthy animals?? Sick degenerate trash? Well tell me, since you appear so very well versed on the subject and well educated in general, when did abortion become an issue involving Animal Abuse??

Rep. Ward, it is you who must live with your conscience. I hope you soon make the moral, educated decision, not one based on the dollar.

    Mr. Ward
I would simply like to say THANK YOU for all that you do! I feel that you are doing a fine job! Remember, you cannot please all of the people, all of the time. Again, THANK YOU!

All the sick, disgusting, degenerate trash on this comment section would rather safeguard a stinking filthy animal than the life of an unborn child, a child with a soul. You have put yourself below the animal, and should be treated as such.

So sad that you are David Waides Puppet... Mississippi is ready for change, the people of MS (81% the polls showed) wanted SB2623 to pass, trust me, we will not forget that when election time comes around.

I agree with earthlover! I have livestock and very glad that my livestock is protected, but I have dogs that I feel equally important that should be protected. How many deaths (of people) does it take in this state before MS makes the correlation between animal abuse and those who become murderers, rapists, serial killers? I truly think if one of these were those against this law had a close family member murdered because of this, they would change thoughts....think of those who have lived this tradegy and those who will in the future because SB2623 was killed!

I agree with earthlover - I also would like to know, why can't companion animals, have the same protection that livestock has in our state? Why is our state always the last in anything good and first in all that's bad?

bj - The trouble with people like you is that you throw around your "constitutional" rights at the drop of a hat. Where does it say in the Constitution that you have the right to abuse animals? Why shouldn't a domestic animal that is being abused be seized from the person abusing it? Why is the welfare of livestock in the state of Mississippi more important than the welfare of the family dog and cat? It is people like you that keep our fair state forever locked in the dark ages.

Thousands of Mississippi citizens worked thousands of hours to see the felony animal cruelty law become a reality. In one brief and irresponsible moment you killed our dreams of a kinder and safer world for our domestic animals and for the victims of senseless violence from people that abuse animals. It's a known fact that violence begets violence and you ignored that fact and you ignored the majority of people in this state. I don't know how you sleep at night.....

Mississippi is the only southern state without a felony animal cruelty law--last at everything, I suppose. Very disappointed in you, Mr. Ward--this topic is far from over.

mr ward, why did you kill bill making animal cruelty a felony? we will remember this come reelection time.

Mr. Ward, Thank you for killing the two bills dealing with unlawful and unconstitutional seizure of pets. There are better laws in other states that do not encroach on citizens rights under the US Constitution. On behalf of many citizens in our State, I thank you for your insight into badly written laws.
