Rep. Kathlyn Fares, a Republican, represents part of St. Louis County which includes Glendale, Oakland, Shrewsbury and most of Webster Groves (District 91), in the Missouri House of Representatives. Rep. Fares is serving a fourth term. She has worked in the family business, Fares Interior Furnishings, which specializes in upholstery and antique furniture restoration, as well as various other business settings. Rep. Fares was a secondary school teacher in both the Riverview Gardens and Webster Groves school districts. Rep. Fares is a member of the Webster Groves-Shrewsbury Chamber of Commerce, the Webster Groves Lions and Rotary Clubs. Rep. Fares is serving a fourth term. Fares is a member of the Webster Groves-Shrewsbury Chamber of Commerce, the Webster Groves Lions and Rotary Clubs. She is serving on the Webster Groves High school community Leaders Advisory Committee; the Affton School District Safe and Drug Free Schools and Community Board and the Kirkwood School District Parents as Teachers Advisory Board. Since 1994, Rep. Fares has served as Jefferson Township Committeewoman. She is an active member of The Republican Circle and the MoFRW/Jefferson Township Republican Womenâs Club. She is Boy Scouts of America and Exploring leader trained and currently serves on the New Horizons District Committee. She has served on the church council and other committees as a member of her previous church and now is a member of the Webster Hills Methodist Church. Rep. Fares is a graduate of the Focus Leadership St. Louis 2002/2003 class and is a current participant in the Focus Bridges Program. Rep. Fares served on the Missouri Commission on the Future of Higher Education and chaired the St. Louis Regional Legislative Caucus. Rep. Fares served on the METS (Math, Engineering, Technology & Science) Alliance and is an ex officio of the new METS board. She has also served as co-chairman of the Webster Groves/Shrewsbury "Make A Difference Day.â Rep. Fares was a participant in the Missouri Biotechnology Associationâs leadership program BIO Benchmarking 2007. She was honored by the Missouri Community College Association as a 2002 Distinguished Legislator. She has also received the 2003 SSM Cardinal Glennon Safe Kids award, 2005 RCGA Lewis & Clark Statesman Award, 2006 Paraquad Legislative Leadership Award, 2006 Webster Groves/Shrewsbury Area Chamber of Commerce Heart of the Community Outstanding Community Event Award for "Make a Difference Dayâ, 2007 NAMI St. Louis Recognition of Outstanding Advocacy and 2007 Legislative Recognition Award from the Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education. A graduate of Carrollton High School, Rep. Fares attended Central Methodist College and received a bachelor of science in education from Central Missouri State University. Born in Kansas City, Rep. Fares lives in Webster Groves with her husband, Lee. They have two grown children: Scott Fares and Heather Fares Kloeckener, and five grandchildren.
