Rep. Jeff Harris, a Democrat, represents part of the City of Columbia (District 23) in the Missouri House of Representatives. He was elected to the House in November 2002 and served as the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives from November 2004 to September 2007, and Minority Whip from November 2003 to November 2004. In 2004, he served on the Democratic National Convention Rules Committee. Rep. Harris is a member of the Missouri Kidney Program Advisory Council and a member of the Elks Club. He is also a member of Missouri United Methodist Church in Columbia. Rep. Harris attended the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive Program as a Fannie Mae Foundation Fellow. In 2004, he served on the Democratic National Convention Rules Committee. Rep. Harris is a member of the Missouri Kidney Program Advisory Council and a member of the Elks Club. He is also a member of Missouri United Methodist Church in Columbia. Rep. Harris attended the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive Program as a Fannie Mae Foundation Fellow. He was selected to be part of an eight-person delegation to the Peopleâs Republic of China by the American Council of Young Political Leaders in 2003, and he was chosen by the same group as a delegate to the first-ever East Asia-Pacific Alumni Summit in Tokyo, Japan in 2006. He received a 2003 "Rising Star Awardâ from Missouri Votes Conservation, the Columbia-Hickman H.S. 2003 "Super Kewpâ Alumni Award and the 2006 Betty Saunders Elected Office Holders Award, the 2007 University of Missouri Alumni Alliance Award and the 2008 SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center Crystal Wagon Award. He was a member of the Governorâs Commission on the Future of Higher Education. In addition to his legislative duties, Rep. Harris is an attorney. Prior to serving in the House of Representatives, he was an Assistant Missouri Attorney General. A 1983 graduate of David H. Hickman High School in Columbia, Mo., Rep. Harris graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts from Vanderbilt University in 1987, and received his juris doctor from Cornell Law School in 1991. He was a member of the Cornell Law Review. Born October 7, 1964, Rep. Harris, his wife, Katie, and daughter, Grace Virginia, reside in Columbia, Mo.
