In an article in the L. A. Times today (9/01/08, "Legislators Get Bills Off Their Plate", page B1) Times Staff Writer Nancy Vogel indicated that SB1301 allows illegal immigrant students to receive financial aid at state universities. If correct, I strongly oppose the measure, especially at a time when the State has a huge budget deficit and inadequate funding for public schools and our parks, among many other important funding areas. Even if the amounts involved are very small, this is a "no-brainer." Aid must be reserved for legal residents who are qualified, deserving and needy of aid.
