I have read the mortgage fraud bill and I saw nowhere an appraiser is protected by mortgage brokers put undue pressure on the appraiser to hit a number. The appraiser is constantly being asked to provide information to mortgage brokers that would support a certain value in the appraisal was completed. The mere action suggests the appraiser can accomodate a number when no inspection of the property has been made. Broker's tend to call this a comp search. It should be outlawed. Mortgage broker's should be made to order appraisals only and allow the appraiser to do their job. The law uses the words extort and/or bribe. Great words, but are very strong & hard to prove.
