Generally, present law requires a permit to construct a building within the boundaries of a mapped highway or on a highway shown on the official map as a proposed abandonment or relocation. This bill prohibits the issuing of a building permit for the construction of a residential building within 500 feet of a mapped or abandoned highway unless the applicant has conducted an environmental study regarding the dangers and costs involved with the placement of such a residential building.
